After spending a few very pleasant hours at Ganondagan last Sunday, when I arrived home, the kids had made plans to meet some of their friends in Naples. Mark asked if I wanted to ride along. At first, I was reluctant. I was kind of tired after spending time walking around a good part of the day. When Mark mentioned he wanted to take me for a ride into the hills, well, how could I resist?

I get up well before everyone else each morning to take the Scottie boys outside. I don’t mind as they are my Scotties! (I cannot imagine life without a good little canine friend! )

This morning, I popped out of bed and fed the boys. I was getting ready to take them outside after they ate, but my summer pajamas, consisting of a short sleeved top and shorts, would not offer much protection from the downpour! I quickly slipped on a big zippered sweatshirt hanging near the door. The sweatshirt was so large, it came down to my knees! (Okay, I have previously established I *am* very short!)

The boys and I hopped out the door and down the steps. We were outside a total of maybe ten minutes and by the time we were heading back up the stairs, I was shivering! WOW! I haven’t felt that sensation in ages! It felt so good to feel cool. My flipflops squeaked from the wetness as I walked across the front porch and the Scotties shook and shook, trying to shake off the excessive moisture on their coats!

Yes, it is cool and wet and I am loving it! I heard on the radio that it is supposed to warm up and be very humid today, so I am totally enjoying this comfortable break while I may!

Yesterday morning, I was standing on the porch looking at the flowers and bushes below. I noticed movement on the Butterfly Bush, and sure enough, the little Hummingbird Moth was back once again. I had mounted my longer lens on the Nikon, so I went upstairs to grab it, hoping the little moth wouldn’t fly away. I did manage a fairly good photo of the little bugger at work amongst the flowers on the bush….

If you enlarge this photo, you can see the little moth pretty well. This photo is much better than the ones I took a couple days ago with the Panasonic. I wish I could get closer and get a better shot, but this moth is quite timid. Even standing several feet above and away from it, it moved rapidly, trying to get away from me and the camera!

I also got a rather grungy shot that I cropped just to show the moth as it flew away, its proboscis coiled….

I have been taking photos and playing around with my camera on the cell a lot. The day before yesterday, we had the strangest weather I’ve seen! The skies were an intense blue with puffy white clouds of the harmless variety. Suddenly, the sky would darken and we heard awesome thunder to the northwest. As the storm grew closer, we found ouselves in such downpours, it was hard to imagine so much rain coming down so rapidly! The rain stopped abruptly and the blue skies once again appeared! This played out several times throughout the day. Carly said they had hail in Rochester, but we didn’t have that. I captured the sky in a cell photo that can only be described as “changeable skies”!

Yesterday was bright and sunny, but quite warm. We left the house in the afternoon as we had some running around to do. We had to go to the county treasurer’s office, the DMV, the bank, Finger Lakes Community College, Lowe’s, and Wal Mart. After finishing this up, we took the kids to the mall so they could support their friends’ band who was playing at a store there.

Mark and I went to the mall before the show with Michelle, as she is thinking she might like to get a cell phone. Yes, our children seem the only ones on Planet Earth who have managed to age well into their teen years sans a cell phone! Michelle has been given Mark’s phone when she attends classes at college and that worked well, but she is thinking she would now like a phone of her own. My, sometimes it is hard seeing our children grow up, isn’t it? And yes, she really isn’t a child anymore, but a young lady….adult….with ideas of her own!

Michelle never did decide to go with a particular phone. Very much her father’s daughter, she ponders and logically thinks things through before making a decision. Very rarely will one find Michelle acting on impulse.

After looking at phones and hearing the details of the various plans offered, Mark and I visited with the mom of one of the kids in the band. We had a really nice visit, then Mark and I went out to the truck. As I walked out the mall entrance, I had to snap a photo of a pretty pink Hibiscus flower. The Eastview Mall in Victor has the most lush and beautiful gardens I’ve seen in any of the local malls.

Once we were headed toward the truck, we spotted the new LL Bean store, located across the parking lot from the mall. Mark and I both wanted to check out this new (sporting goods and outdoor) store. We wandered on over and enjoyed looking around the store for a few minutes. Before entering the store, I really did need to capature a photo of the giant boot outside!

It was a busy day and I think my brain was smoking after hearing so many numbers and facts at the DMV and the Sprint phone kiosk! I was shocked that in order to simply take the driver’s test in New York, kids under 18 need to pay $100 for a five hour course. Fees seem to have surpassed anything I would have imagined! As far as phone plans, well, that’s another story. Mark made the comment that many people would probably pay their cell bill before eating if push came to shove. As I tought about it, I think he might be right. Sad.

We didn’t arrive home until after ten o’clock and I was dragging! The Scotties were so thrilled to see us and by the time I took them outside and gave them a treat, it was nearly eleven! This morning, Michelle called out to me to come and see….

Yes, Michelle informed me that little Angus was cold, so he hopped up next her and snuggled against her, thus causing her to cover him up from the chill!

Michelle has been resting all day today. She awakened during the night, terribly itchy and miserable. She had told the doctor and nurse that examined her yesterday that the rash hadn’t itched at that point. Oh, what to do, what to do? One of the main reasons I thought she should see the doctor yesterday is because I am allergic to the diphenhydramine in antihistamines like Benadryl. When I saw Michelle breaking out in bumps all over, I wanted reassurance from the doctor that she too was not allergic because she has been taking the medication. When I mentioned yesterday I am allergic to said medication, the doctor looked at me and commented that was very curious, as Benedryl is administered for allergic reactions. Argh….

Tonight, poor Michelle has many terrible bumps all over her hands. They have crept up her legs from her feet and now bother her behind the knees and on her kneecaps. The bumps on her elbows have also increased. The nurse told us to give this 48 hours and if it doesn’t begin to subside, I think both Michelle AND I are going to SCREAM! The poor kid.

Late this afternoon, Michelle made a little request for a pizza for dinner. Well, after all she’s been through, I told her it was okay. I left and ran up to the store to grab the pizza. As I was returning home, just before Bristol Mountain, a very small fawn came bolting out into the road. As fast as it was running, I was afraid of hitting it, as I had been going about 55 mph. I stopped with about 25 feet to spare, and there was a car coming in the opposing lane. I held my breath and yelled “NO”! The little animal then stopped abruptly, and tumbled down onto the asphalt. Nearly as quickly as it had fallen, it lurched to its feet and made a hasty retreat back toward the mountain, from whence it had come.

As I had applied the brakes on the Explorer, I was glancing in my rear view mirror to make sure no one was tailgating to rear end me. As it was, the truck which was behind me had plenty of stopping room. Once I had slowed down to a near stop, I kept tapping the brakes to let them know I was stopping. After the little one had scooted off the road, I watched the couple in the truck pointing toward the deer. They understood why I stopped as I did and for that, I was so thankful!

After living here in the Bristolwood for almost eighteen years, we know to travel cautiously. Seer abound in the area and we have become pretty much aware of the spots they prefer. Several years ago, Mark had a close encounter with our Volvo in this same spot. There was a buck standing in the road. Mark came to a complete stop and the buck must have become disoriented. He turned around and ran direcly into the side of the Volvo! No damage was done, but we were surprised and it taught us to keep a watchful eye out for these animals!

And…

Speaking of animals! Last night, Michelle decided to spend some time watching movies on her little laptop. When she got bored, she asked Angus if he would like to “watch a little something” with her. Michelle sat at her little desk with Angus propped up on her lap.

Since Angus seems to enjoy observing wildlife, Michelle found some goodies for Angus to watch on YouTube. The results were nearly hysterical!

Well now, if Scotties are not your cup of tea, how about a photo I took this morning? We had some rain during the night and my (newer) pink and purple Fuchsia had some tiny raindrops still lingering on it so I tried to get a good photo. I liked this one best….

I am hoping and praying that Michelle will be much improved come morning. It is no little thing to just whisk her off to the pediatrician’s office as it is located about 40 miles from our house. We don’t mind the drive, but sometimes it is tough trying to coordinate times so she can be seen quickly.

We left our house last Friday, midday. We made plans to visit with my parents at the rod and gun club they belong to after we unhitched our camper at Allegany State Park. We scurried and hurried and were able to meet my parents for a tasty fish fry.

After we finished eating, we went shopping for a bit and then went to my parents’ home. It is always a treat to visit their house because there are always beautiful flowers everywhere! I love looking at all the blooms. I used the cell’s camera to capture some of the beautiful flowers….

I love this photo of the Mock Orange flower. The flowers are so white and beautifully formed!

Of course, little Fritz found Michelle most accommodating when he wanted to snuggle up with her!

My mom disappeared for a little while and returned with a gorgeous wood carving Randy made. It was so petty!

We went back to our campsite and fell into bed with plans to leave again early in the morning. Mark had plans to go shopping in Erie, PA. We stopped long enough to pick Randy up and we were off and on our way! Our Saturday shopping excursion turned into a sauna! The heat and humidity were so high that day, we took turns waiting in the truck with Angus and Murphy. They were entertained by styrofoam cups from McDonald’s, and were, in turn, very entertaining!

Angus perforated one cup, trying to get to the bottom of things for a drink of water!

Eww….look at all the hair on the side of the cup! Yuck! Murphy took his water more gracefully, making me tilt the cup so he could drink.

We managed to stay hydrated and fit. After our shopping spree, we called home and Mom said to come on home and she would make dinner! We had steaks on the grill along with a stir fry and salad. We ate outside and the food was delicious!

We left to go back to the campsite when we asked if Randy wanted to come along. Ben has a big tent which easily houses a few campers so Randy came along. Ben had brought some electronics and he and Randy played games until late!

Sunday was Father’s Day here in the US, so we planned to grill a meal at the camp. Mark made some chicken that was tasty and delicious. My parents visited with us and we thoroughly enjoyed our surroundings! There were very few campers near us, giving us the feeling of owning the whole woods! Our lot was very deep with a beautiful little creek behind it.

Take note of that sweet little stream for later….

Mom, Mark, and the kids all played a game of Apples to Apples and laughed and giggled, having a good time. When it was time to go back home, my parents were a bit reluctant….it was such a pleasant day! Randy stayed on and on Monday, we took another little excursion. I will post about that later.

After Mom and Dad left the campground, we built a nice little fire and I sat outside by myself, enjoying the quiet. I think everyone loves just sitting around a campfire and this one felt so warm and cozy, I didn’t want to leave! I sat, watching the flames moving about and daydreamed about the woods.

I turned around, looking at the camper with its lights on inside. Even it seemed to emit a cozy glow.

Ah, life was good. It was as I was turning back to the fire that I noticed something moving across the property. Oh my! A fat little raccoon was making its way along….I called out to it to “scram!” and wondered what I might do if the little nocturnal marauder might make its way towards me!

I slowly got up from my chair, easing my way back to the camper. Mark asked who I was talking to and when I told him there was a coon outside, he thought I had really lost it. You were talking to the coon instead of scrambling inside?

Well, thought I, raccoons are known for washing their food before eating! Perhaps it was *I* who was the intruder, after all. That little coon is a permanent resident, while I was there only temporarily….invading his space and his creek! It matters not…all ended well!

through the lens of my little Panasonic camera. I like to use this camera as well as the Nikon D-SLR, as I love the wide angle leans on it.

Mark and I dropped the kids off at the church in Middlesex at 6:30 am. As we sat in the truck, we had to decide what to do, what to do! It isn’t that often that we find ourselves “kidless” and when we do, we are almost “numb” trying to think of how to spend our time. It is a treat not to have four different people in the truck at on time, all wanting to go in a different direction!

It didn’t really take me too long to think of what I wanted to do and as Mark thought about it, he came up with another idea or two of his own. We had a beautiful day ahead of us with nice temperatures and lots of sunshine. How could we ever go wrong with that combination? And so, we headed due east.

I suggested stopping by Sauder’s Store as every time we enter, we find something new that just amazes us. We were off toward Seneca Falls by way of state routes 5&20.

As we approached the head of Seneca Lake where the city of Geneva is located, Mark suggested we stop by the Seneca Lake State Park. After all, the park doesn’t start charging entry fees until May 8.

We drove into the park and Mark stopped the truck along the lake road. I hopped out and had to take one “artistic” shot through a chainlink fence of this old milkweed….

A short distance away was a plaque. As I started walking that way, Mark wondered where I was headed and I pointed. As always, the information provided was very interesting!

Here you can see some of the young willows planted lakeside, along with the plaque.

Here is a view of this very large Finger Lake, looking toward the south.

Looking toward the west, one can see the city of Geneva and the beautiful walking path on the lake.

This is a view looking to the east along the road. Since the information provided said that routes 5&20 used to run just a short distance from the lake, we wondered if this road was part of te original route.

As we drove eastward through the park, we were able to see a few waterfowl, such as this flock of Bufflehead Ducks bobbing up and down in the water.

As we progressed along the road, the trees grew larger and larger. Note the picnic table along the lake….this is such an awesome place to just spend a day walking and picnicking or just observing others!

We drove down near the marina, where there were many more boats on the land than in the water. Since the official opening of the “summer season” commences the end of May on Memorial Day, I suppose the boats will slowly make their way to the water…

I took the next photo to show just how closely this park runs to routes 5&20. (on the right side of the photo)

Neither Mark nor I was in any hurry to leave the park. It was so relaxing driving around, taking in the scenes, enjoying the fresh air and not hearing the kids in the back seat asking “how much longer?’ We did have the two Scottie boys and while we were in the park, we allowed them to sit up in the front seat. After awhile, Angus crawled up on Mark and plopped his seat down on Mark’s left leg. Since we were one of only four or five vehicles in the park, Mark let Angus ride on his leg. With window rolled down and a brisk breeze blowing, Angus thoroughly enjoyed letting his beard air out!

He looked out the window, searching the grounds for squirrels……

then grew bored until Mark allowed him to take over the controls……..

Well, Angus’s driving lesson proved to be rather short as he discovered it is awkward trying to keep a vehicle on the road when your legs, err….”arms” are only six or seven inches long!

Yesterday, we spent a quiet Easter at home with the kids. Michelle was feeling a bit under the weather with a cold and my father has been having some trouble with his shoulder, so we stayed around the house and enjoyed the nice weather. My father is due to have surgery for a shoulder replacement so hopefully, that will alleviate the dreadful pain he is now suffering.

Last Friday, Mark and Ben found a wonderful swing for the front porch. They set it up and this morning found Michelle and the Scottie boys enjoying the swing! I got the camera out and took a few pictures…

My apologies if you have seen this on Facebook. Not all my readers are there, so here it is again!

Our weather continues to be so mild and warm! I went to the grocery store this afternoon and was so happy I could drive with the windows down and enjoy the fresh air.

Oh, one more photo. Remember a while back I posted a photo of the window on the woodstove making a stained glass -like reflection on the couch? Well, this afternoon, the colors were beyond outstanding!

The break from working and running around yesterday was greatly appreciated and so good. I hope all my readers had a restful holiday as well!

Mom! Come quickly! There are bugs in my bed….bedbugs!

Oh come now. We live in a clean house and are clean people. I calmly mounted the stairs….

Yes, I had an idea she was talking about something like this. This was the morning we had awakened to the “big” snow. Michelle thought the boys needed some warm shelter so she basically buried them in her bed! Angus, ham that he is, loved the attention, while Murphy immediately squirmed out from under the blankets. If he could speak , I am sure he would have been muttering something under his breath about his “sissy-pants” brother….

Yes, as I said, Angus *is* a ham!

The photos above were meant to be included in the previous entry, but my Dell laptop keeps telling me that all my SD cards are write-protected and cannot be copied nor deleted! I managed to get the photo of the boys with the tent when my little netbook I was using died because the battery had run too low. I was too tired to fiddle around any more last night, so I just went to bed and then when I plugged in the netbook, just uploaded the post this morning! So, here are some photos taken the past couple of days.

Yesterday, when I awakened, I suddenly felt this strange feeling. As I looked outside, the trees looked as though they were closing in on me and I realize it was claustrophobia I was feeling! Much of the snow has dropped from the trees, but they still have clumps in them that remind me of cotton!

We’ve had a lot going on the past few days with lots of shoveling involved! I was taking photos but not even looking at them!

Sooo…..conversation this morning.

Me: Wow! There’s a lotta snow out there!

Mark: Nah, the snow is drifted, but it doesn’t *look* like there is much. Just drifts here and there.

Ah, famous last words….

What Mark did *not* see was the snow the Scottie boys and I encountered early this morning before the sun came up. We three hopped down the steps only to witness snow that far exceeded the height of a wee-legged Scottie Dog! I tried to push the snow aside with my boots, but it was so deep and heavy, I could barely move it! Seeing the frustration in my companions, I more or less “forced” them under the front porch where there was little snow on the ground!

As Mark and the kids did some things they needed to do, I took a few photos of visitors to the suet feeder out back. The birds have been visiting with greater frequency the past few days.

This little Titmouse patiently awaited his turn atop the railing…..

And look at the lovely pose he struck just for the camera!

When Mark was nearly done with his chores, I went outside and shoveled off the back deck and part of the ramp. I convinced Ben to finish the job and we had it cleared just as Mark was ready to wheel out the door.

I teased Mark the other day that the wheelchair ramp looks like a luge course. Now that we have shoveled, it looks even more so!

Michelle took Murphy out to the front of the garage where she was about to shovel. She set him down and he more or less paddled his way through the snow to me. He wasn’t the least bit impressed by this massive-to-him snowfall!

Both the truck and the Explorer are relatively high vehicles with a generous ground clearance. You can see that the snow in front of the garage was pretty deep!

Michelle and I worked at shoveling out the front of the garage as well as around the perimeter of the vehicles. We always hand shovel these areas as Mark cannot get in tight enough with the plow.

The snowstorm last night involved snow that fell very finely. Were it not for the fierce wind, we probably would have had a much deeper snowfall. What did fall was not like the light, fluffy snow we had previously experienced this year, but heavy, wet snow. As Michelle and I worked, huge snowflakes began to fall.

Before Mark could plow with the ATV, he needed a bit of help to remount the two rear tires on the ATV. He had removed them because when we had the inspection of the truck done yesterday, he also had those two tires reseated on the rims as they were having some trouble losing air.

When Mark pulled forward to begin pushing the snow, I couldn’t believe the snow was almost the same height as the ATV!

That ATV is worth its weight in gold. It did indeed push through that enormous blockade and handily removed the snow from the driveway!

I tried to take the Scotties in the house, but Angus the Brave would not budge. He wanted to linger outside, watching Mark plow the driveway. Poor little fellow….he looked like a frozen Teddy Bear as he observed from the porch!

Murphy, on the other hand, bounded into the house with gleeful abandon as soon as the door was opened. And still, Angus watched over Mark….

Michelle and I continued to work our way through that nasty pile of snow in front of the garage.

Mark worked on the driveway for a good two hours. There was so much snow; this was a snowfall more like the “old-fashioned” ones we remember.

We were all thrilled with the mechanical advantage offered by the ATV! The only assistance Mark requires is a hand changing the blade direction on the plow from time to time.

As soon as we finished clearing out the front of the garage, Michelle went inside the house to warm up. I stayed outside a while longer, then as Mark was finishing up, I shoveled the close to two inches of fluffy stuff that fell as we were working outside.

Ben helped Mark get things put away and then they came into the house. Or, so I thought.

Mark kept hollering for me to grab a camera.

I raced to see what it was causing such a ruckus, only to find the boy like this…

Yup, that is how deep the snow is behind the house. The disgusted look is because Ben claims he hates the snow.

We got everything secured and settled in to an afternoon of watching Team USA beat Team Finland in hockey. One more game to go and we are assured at least a silver medal! Of course, we are so excited because our favorite team (the Buffalo Sabres) is represented in the form of TeamUSA’s winning goalie, Ryan Miller! What excitement!

The snow stopped falling, for the time being, and we were treated to another beautiful Bristolwood sunset.

We are told that the system that blessed us with this round of snowfall has stalled out and will now remain with us the next few days, causing flurries on and off.
