Mr Rogers Was in the Neighborhood!
No, not the congenial sweater-wearing host of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, but Mr. Rogers, the excavator! He leveled the pad for our camper, created a new drainage swale to replace the (defunct) “stream” bed in the front yard, touched up some trails for the ATV in the woods, and gave us a fantastic new driveway! He came yesterday around two and left at about five. He was back this morning around seven-thirty and finished up around noon. Amazing the difference a man and a bulldozer can make in less than a day’s labor!
As Mr. Rogers worked on making the new swale for rainwater, he *found* our cable for our “3-in-1″ service….cable television, internet, and digital phone! Needless to say, we were without for a day….thankfully, Time Warner was quick to come and lay a new line this afternoon.
The place is looking very “new”! Mark and Guy (Mr. Rogers) talked about all the tasks we wanted done, and Guy would give us his ideas. Since he has been doing this work for many years, we basically followed his advice and boy, what a difference! Everything is looking terrific! I especially like the cobbles lining the stream bed….they add a real “parklike” feel!

I’m still marvelling at all the space you have – just wonderful. Looks like he did a good job
Jackie, think of living in the middle of “nowhere” and that pretty much sums up where we are!! hehehe There is so much open space available, really!
Guy told us yesterday that the town is going to make it so that if anyone wants to build a new home here, they will have to hire an engineer to lay out guidelines for water runoff as we are in a watershed for the lake. This will literally add thousands of dollars to the price of a new home. The town is adding tax upon tax and making it nearly impossible for folks to breathe without paying more taxes. When our neighbor told us that the town would require a permit for a person to nail two boards together, he wasn’t far off! I think it is time for common folks to get involved in government!!!
I thought democracy meant the involvement of ‘common folk’ in Government, or is that being naive?
Good set of photos and good job done by Guy – mind you the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so let’s have a report in 6 months please.
Bill, in its purest sense, I suppose democracy would offer “common folk” such a chance, but the reality is, “money talks”. I do think that is a universal law, though!
I have made a mental note to report how our excavating extravaganza holds up in a few months…..of course, with my never-ending list of “to-do’s”, you might *gently* remind me at some point, inquiring, say, how the driveway is holding up with all the wintry weather or such!!!
The stream bed will continue to handle the water that flows from the hill behind our garage. We have a small perforated pipe buried in gravel that runs the rear and west wall primeter of the garage. It continues past the garage and into the culvert under the driveway….we didn’t remove said culvert, as Guy said it is not necessary. The water from that hill generally was a gentle, though often hefty flow. I suppose in the spring, there will be some water exiting the now void stream bed, but the massive flow that used to come from up the hill will be diverted well above its previous “catch point”. I am so grateful if the new system works, as I grew weary of trudging out in the spring in water up to my thighs, pulling out rocks, branches, and silt from the plugged culvert. Ben will rejoice along with me, as he has rather resumed this obligation/responsibility of late!
