Ian, for you, I will tell you about the Ivy league schools here in the US!

There are eight schools in all included in this rather "elite" group. Seven of the eight schools were founded in America's colonial days, with Cornell University being the newest, established in 1865.

The "Ivies" are amongst the top rated schools in the world, receiving (more than exceedingly) generous grants and aid from state and federal government. They have stringent (spelled *very* strict and impossible for many) admissions and students who attend are as stated above, considered an "elite" group of individuals. The universities are all located in the Northeastern portion of the US. (Yale and Harvard would be amongst the most well known in this group)

Having said the above, I think all the veterinaians I have taken my dogs to over the years have graduated from Cornell. I have not met any that are snobs! I lived next door to one many years ago and he and his wife were so down to earth and just amazing people who loved animals!

Oh my: that Walnut Cake does look delicious! And yes -- bbq chickens: mmmm. We have what we call "Charcoal Chicken" down here: chargrilled. Double mmmmmm.

And what another fantastic day out: on a rainy and cool Sydney evening thank you for taking me on a tour of such a beautiful and fascinating area.

One Q -- well 2 actually: are "Ivy League" unis all older ones? and how did thet get that name?
[I suppose I could Google: but I prefer people I read's explanations. :) ]
