Comparisons…

Well, we all love creating and re-creating!  It is fun to see how our photos look when transformed from color to black and white or sepia!  Bill in Scotland reminded me of that this morning, when he showed an artistic shot of a beautifully blossoming tree.

I had fiddled with the settings on my Nikon D-80 yesterday afternoon while waiting for the kids.  I changed from the original photo…..

To black and white…..

And sepia.

I would love to hear your comment on which you prefer.  Me?  Well, I am all about color (or colour as my UK friends and Ian in Oz say!)  I must admit that after viewing these, though,  I tend to really like the sepia photo.  There might be a reason, though…..

My dad was raised on a farm in Pennsylvania.  One photo of him that I really liked was done  in sepia when he was a little boy. Perhaps it is a subconscious thing…..I also have fond memories of going to the barn to play on my grandfather’s old tractor…..

  • I like the color one best. Although a big fan of B&W, I don’t think it does anything for this particular picture. The sepia one looks eerie, like something out of a horror flick.

  • The sepia works well for those photographs where we might expect an original of the ‘period’ to be so colored (spelling reciprocated!). [That’s a convoluted sentence). In this case I prefer it – personal taste.

  • I think I like the sepia one too, but that’s because I’m an old romantic at heart! I like the colour one too. Not the B&W so much, which is unusual for me, I like shooting in B&W usually.

Sepia for me: I think, as an Honest Man wrote, it seems to reflect the period of the machinery.

  • Well you know me.. I have to go with sepia. and there is no way I could leave that photo like it is.. would have to picnik.com it! lol
On the road where I took sugaring pictures there were several fields just littered with old farm equipment. It was like a farm equipment grave yard. I wanted to take some pictures of it all, but like I said that road just gave a strange feeling. Like the minute you pull onto it everyone knows you’re there. I felt like I was being watched. Now that I know hw to get back there though I may venture out with the hubby with me just to put my mind at ease.
