Our Weather Might be Frightful

But, we are warm and safe and….

Sabres game tonight! (and they won a game last night!)

Our weather forecast is calling for “several inches” of snow.  Then right behind this bout of snow is Arctic air. The temperatures are supposed to be the coldest in four years.

The snow began falling here at about 3 pm.  I had Mark call the store up the road for a pizza about then, and I ran out to get it.  As I drove along the roads, I couldn’t help but think about this horribly annoying sign!

Because we are located in the “Canandaigua Watershed District”,  (all of our runoff ends up in the lake) we must take care with our winter treatment of the roads?  Hmmm….

Here is the state road I had to travel on….

And, welcome to my hill!

It is now after 6 pm and our road still has yet to be plowed! Oh, but think of all the SALT we are saving!  When we first moved here, we had front wheel drive vehicles, and we did pretty well getting up and down the hill.  Then we bought a rear-wheel drive Volvo.  That was before Mark had the injury and we kept it for another year or two.  I did plow the road late at night a couple of times to get us home with the Volvo!  After the Volvo was a rear wheel drive truck. We left it parked at the bottom of the hill a couple of times.  Then came the 4 wheel drive Explorer, and the newest 4 wheel drive pickup.  Thank heaven we were able to buy the 4 wheel drive vehicles! The pickup came right up this afternoon with no problem!

Hey, the Bristolwood stole Webster’s sign! The snow didn’t start falling here until about 6pm, but as of 11:30, we’ve yet to see a plow! Bundle up, and enjoy your Jotyl!

  • I had quite a time getting home from Wegmans tonight….no plows in sight!! I just had to make a quick run to Michaels and stop at Wegmans. I’m so glad I made it home safely. Very scary driving out there! I think everyone will be staying inside for the next week or so with all that COLD air coming at us!! Stay warm!!

  • I’m glad that 4 wheel drives are used properly somewhere and not JUST by mothers taking their children to school!

Sorry, but it’s one of my gripes over here that a large number of the vehicles arriving at the school gates are monstrous 4x4s which are totally unnecessary (there is never any significant snow here).

Having got that little rant over, your post has made me a little more resigned to the rain lashing down here!

  • Well, glad I am in good company as far as lack of plowing! Good grief! I guess when folks perceive a soft economy, they cut back on services….yeah, sure….we just paid our highest school tax bill ever! Ugh.

Bill, 4×4′s are pretty popular here, too, but many people opt for all-wheel drive vehicles. The 4×4′s are also handy in the summer when folks are putting their boats in and out of the lake.

I certainly can understand your dislike of the big vehicles driven just for “show” or whatever!

  • Yes – in London the 4x4s are known as “Chelsea tractors” as they are mainly used by people with more money than sense for show and for the (probably few hundred meter only) school run.

I wouldn’t dare drive down any of those roads, even in an all-wheel, all-weather, all-singing, all-dancing vehicle!

  • I’m with ya on the 4×4′s being used properly. I almost freaked out when I went to the library one day and there was a guy putting up new shelving and his truck was that expensive Cadillac with pearl paint. He was taking tools in and out not caring if his bumped the paint or what he put in it.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter what kind of vehicle you have. What matters is how you drive it.
