Bath Trip

While the kids went skating tonight, I honed my nightime photo skills…

Not the greatest photos, but a tiny taste of Bath….

  • I posted this entry late last night…
Since the kids had to call off their New Year’s Eve party, Mark and I told them they could have the kids over yesterday. We had six other kids, plus our two…everyone showed up at about 2 pm. They had a lot of fun, but boy, was the house NOISY! Yikes! I made up cheeseburgers shortly before 5, and the kids all sat down to eat. We were to leave at 6 to go to Bath for the Teen Skate. With Mark and me, there were a total of 10 people, and we can only carry 6 total in the truck. One of the boys has a truck, and he could carry a total of 3 people. So, Mark decided to stay home and I drove the kids.
It is always a bit of a challenge, trying to figure out how to spend 3 hours in Bath! I drove to the village after dropping the kids off, Nikon camera in its bag next to me! Looking for subjects, I was a bit disappointed, but when I came upon the village, proper, WOW! The little village was still decked in its Christmas attire! All the trees along the sidewalks wore white lights that were so pretty. At the foot of the “main” street, (I think it is Liberty Street) there is a park with a church on the far side. That is what you see in the first two photos. I took so many photos, deleting one after the other….I do so love digital photography! The second photo was most pleasing to me, concerning the church. As you can see, I had to shoot through MANY objects…stop lights, street lamps, Christmas lights, street signs….there surely is a LOT going on there!!! I did hop out to take these photos…it was bitterly COLD! The thermometer in the truck said 8 degrees. After getting back into the truck, I noticed the cute little embroidery shop in front of me, so I snapped that as well. (note the windshield wipers…AGAIN!)
Bath has some of the most amazing Victorian homes. Most of the houses in Bath had removed their Christmas decorations, but the one photographed above was simply awesome! It is apparent the owners take a great deal of pride (and probably expense!) in this house.
As I traveled throughout the streets, I came upon a smallish, quite modest home with the familiar yellow ribbon cordoning it off limits…the charred remains, as well as collapsed roof told a tale of a recent fire. My heart just skipped a beat…I hate seeing such sights. Especially this time of the year, when the frigid temperatures make it particularly dangerous….
We arrived back home shortly after 11 pm. and I had to make a fire in the stove…when we left, it was so HOT in the house, I merely walked out without loading the stove. After being out in such cold temps, I knew the house would cool off too much by morning, so I started a new fire, then added this entry to my blog. I TRIED to get it posted before midnight, however….

  • Bath. Makes me think curved terraces of elegant houses, and Roman remains, and taking the waters! This’ll be Bath …. where? Was it founded by people from south-west England?

  • Chris, this is Bath New York! In reading information on the town and village’s history, it was either named after Bath, England, or for a landowner’s daughter, Lady Bath. It was founded in 1793, and it offers some of the prettiest Victorian homes. No Roman remains. Well, perhaps in the cemetery? Bath is locted in the (beautiful, gorgeous, breathtaking, wondeful, and any other superlative adjective!!!) Finger Lakes region of New York.
