Madeline, how amazing about the swans! I love seeing them on the water. They have such a "knowing" look to them....as though they are pretty intelligent. I never knew they were noisy in their flight!!!

Thanks, Bill. I am such a terrible keeper of time and can lose an entire day doing something I really love. If I was left on my own with a camera, my poor family would starve and wonder whatever became of me. Remember, I am a blessed, or is that *blasted* daydreamer!!!!

Jackie, I hope I will be able to sit at the lake long enough to spot those eagles. I saw one a few years back, but it was so HIGH in the sky, it was barely visible. The neighbor couldn't even believe I spotted it!

To An Honest Man, the sound made by our local swans eminates, not from their mouths, but from their huge, black feet, slapping the water's surface as they appear to literally run across the bay, gaining enough speed to actually take flight. A fair amount of splashing is done with those beautiful, long, white wings, too! It certainly brings one quickly back to reality, from the hypnotic trance induced by the otherwise peaceful surroundings!

Madeline, it depends on the swan - mute swans aren't actually mute, but they don't make much noise - whooper swans on the other hand.......

Katya, good set of photos even if time was restricted.

My favorite means of relaxation is watching the waterfowl at the marina on Irondequoit Bay. Someday, when you have time, and camera in hand, take 590N past Empire, all the way to its end. Use the parking spaces farthest from the boat launches (to avoid a ticket on busy days), and have a photographic field day.

Carly and I once counted 53 swans before we lost count. For all their grace and beauty as they float by, swans are the noisiest, silliest-looking beasts as they prepare to take flight from the water. Geese, ducks, and seagulls abound, and a beautiful heron spent an hour sunning himself on a nearby dock, rock, and buoy while I sipped coffee and listened to soothing jazz the other day.
