It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Winter!

It was a bone-chilling 12 degrees outside this morning when I got up.  Brrrr!  Shortly after daybreak, a small snow squall began! It was so beautiful….

As I was nearly hypnotized by the falling snow, I was suddenly made aware that the birds were hungry.  The feeder sits on the window sill, held on by a pressure rod. As I sat in a chair, peering out the window,  I heard that familiar tap, tap, tapping on the feeder, letting me know the seeds were frozen and new ones needed to be added.

Within minutes of filling the feeder, birds were swarming about in the trees! There were Titmice, Chickadees, and Nuthatches. I also spotted a Goldfinch in his winter attire.

  • It was about the same temp here this morning! It’s 13 now… bet it’s colder in your neck of the woods. I can’t seem to warm up. I can’t believe I’ve let myself run out of bird seed! First stop tomorrow is for feed!

  • How I do love your pictures! I heard the wind last night(I’m just home from the hospital after surgery and upstairs was just too far away, so I slept in the recliner). With all that noise, I thought we would have about a foot of snow this morning, but no, just a dusting here.

  • I assume you are on the Fahrenheit scale (32 = freezing point) so you’re at approx -11 centigrade. Just a tad cold! Wrap up warm. I assume you’re recovering from your cold since you’re sounding more upbeat again.

You had me slightly confused with the photographs since they came immediately after your reference to goldfinches, then I found the name when I hovered the cursor over the bird.

  • Terri! Hope you are able to run out today….it is MISERABLE!!!!

Cindy, surgery? I pray you are doing well and it is nothing too serious. Not that ALL surgery isn’t serious! Keep warm, dear one….it is getting terribly miserable this morning, and the forecast….ugh….

Bill, yes, that is the Fahrenheit scale we use here. Growing up (oh, so many, many years ago….) we were always told that the US was going to convert to the metric system. Never happened. Guess the US is a renegade country in many ways.

I was going to photograph the little goldfinch, but the little bugger flew out as quickly as he came. I think he is camera shy! I was going to name the birds when I posted that entry, but Mark and the kids called me to watch a movie with them. I had already queued that entry up from earlier in the day, so I just “published” it without any further ado. Sorry for the confusion!
