Bill, the very first Thanksgiving was to honor God for the safe arrival of 38 English settlers just north of the Jamestown (Virginia) settlement in 1619. There charter ordained that they should hold a celebration honoring God every year on the date of their arrival. Later, the Plymouth (Massachusetts) settlers held a feast of Thanksgiving after the first harvest. They entertained the natives (without whom they would not have survived their first winter) for 3 days.
Thank you for the comments on my house! We really do love it here in the Bristolwood!
Carly, (the teacher! hahaha…and, also my DAUGHTER!) thank you for the history lesson! It is strange. As little kids growing up in the good ole US of A, we take for granted that the whole world knows about Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims and “Indians”. (yes, we learned “Indians”, not Native Americans, as little children, years ago!)
What a beautiful place you have! I would love to live there, too. I can imagine the living room, with fireplace lit, sitting on a rocking chair and sipping hot chocolate… oh well, it’s just me. But really, I can imagine myself doing that.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, too.
What a beautiful and peaceful place! I would give up living in the chaotic desert that is Dubai (my current home) just to be there. Happy WW.

Can I show my ignorance here! I’m quite familiar with the term thanksgiving, but what does it spring from.
Who gave thanks for what originally?
